Put the unit onto the heat source. When the timer goes off turn the heat off and your food is ready. Pressure cookers are simple and this one simply worked as it was designed to do: Plop the food and water into the unit. When the weight starts to wiggle set a timer and reduce the heat. What could be simpler. Close the lid. Make sure the weight is on the steam spout.
I like that rack inside that suspends food so it doesn't burn on the bottom, and it is neat and clean. This is a great pressure cooker. I had another that I didn't like and decided to just get a Presto one.
My new pressure cooker has more safety features than my old one so I am even more confortable using a pressure cooker. My new pressure cooker is almost the same as the first Presto Pressure Cooker that I recived as a wedding gift in 1963. [[ASIN:B00002N601 Presto 01241 4-Quart Aluminum Pressure I was disappointed that the extra glass lid that you can order does not fit my model. The recipes are so different but give the same great, fast results. I still have my old 1963 recipe book and it has no recipe like Chicken Breasts Tarragon which is in the new cookbook.
As with all pressure cookers, it shines at cooking dried beans and grain in the shortest possible time. I wish I'd gotten one a long time ago. I've had a 6 qt pressure cooker for 20 years and I've been very happy with it. This 4 qt version is a better size for cooking 1-2 servings of a particular dish.
Costs a bit more but is worth it not to have burnt food at the bottom.it includes different racks as well for steaming. This is a good size for medium sized meals. Got it as a gift, it works very well, and has created many tasty meals in a short amount of time.its simple to use, but read the instructions first. the included cooking times book is a nice touch.I am happy with this purchase of the aluminum version vs the steel, the heat spreads evenly and is lighter.
